Since the Xena Movie has been indefinitely postponed and/or may not even happen , I thought we could write our own Xena story in the mean time to keep ourselves entertained .
Note: The story happens right after Friend In Need's conclusion. Gabrielle is travelling toward Egypt because they're "in need of a girl with a chakram" . Xena is still dead .
How it works: I will begin the story and the next person will begin where I left off, writing whatever he/she feels is best, introducing whatever themes, conflicts or characters he/she wants. The only rule is that it has to make sense to the entire Xena series. The Greek Gods are dead except for Ares and Aphrodite so if you want to bring back Athena, you have to get creative .
Warning: Before you start writing, post you're claim! Just say that you're writing the next part to the story. If two people post simultaneously, you'll just have to fight to the death ..
Introduction (My Part):
The Fountain of Strength on Mt. Fuji could have been her salvation, her delivery from pain, and her happy ending. It would have been so easy to drop her ashes into the pristine water and save her form the hands of Death, but she would not let her:
“I must stay dead.”
So there they sat, watching as the sun set, sealing her fate forever, binding her to the underworld and away from where she truly belonged.
A tear fell from her eye and onto the scroll on her lap. The ink, which told the story of a Friend in Need, smeared and she tossed the parchment onto the deck of the ship. Her hand was shaking. Somehow she could not get past those words:
“If I only had 30 seconds to live-- this is how I’d want to live them-- looking into your eyes.”
Running her fingers through her short golden hair and gripping tight to rid her heart of its intangible pain, Gabrielle stood from the wooden crate and walked to the starboard side to gaze at the setting sun. It was the third since her ultimate sacrifice, the decision she wished she could take back. Because of Xena’s need for redemption and her own knowing that it was the right thing to do, all she had as a companion was an urn filled with her friend, no, her lover’s ashes.
“Xena,” she said. “I’m trying to be strong. I keep telling myself that it was the right thing to do, but how can I believe that when it hurts so much? Every day I pray to the Gods, begging them to return you to me. Sometimes I beg for them to take me to you. I know you told me that you’ll always remain in my heart, but without you by my side, Xena . . .” Tears overwhelmed her eyes and her heart felt hot with anger and betrayal. “When you died, everything good in me died too and all that’s left is an echo of whom I use to be. You always said that I was your light, but Xena, you were mine. You are my way. The world too lost something great, something good. It lost a hero, a champion for good. How can that be right?”
No reply came. Not since she first set out toward the land of the Pharaohs had Xena spoken to her, allowing her wound to be infected by the most ravenous loneliness. It took every shred of strength and grain of goodness she possessed to convince herself to endure in her fight for the greater good and not to surrender or defy Fate or Xena by returning her to the living and into her arms.
The wind shifted again, flowing against her cheek, wrapping her in its cold embrace. Darkness overwhelmed the golden rays that struggled to maintain their reign over the heavens as the sun descended into the sea.
“You best be turning in,” the Captain told her. “It’ll be a cold night indeed.”
“A few more minutes,” Gabrielle replied, hiding her tears from him. “I always loved sunsets.”
